National Mentoring Community
The National Mentoring Community connects historically marginalized and minoritized students with a network of mentors to support them on their academic and career journeys.
A community committed to diversity
Getting started with the National Mentoring Community is easy. Create a free account or log in with your existing APS account to register as a mentor or mentee. Once you're logged in, students can find a mentor, and prospective mentors can apply.

Become an NMC mentor or mentee
APS welcomes mentors at all career levels and from all sectors to serve on the NMC. Students from all backgrounds may sign up as mentees, though NMC prioritizes students who identify as Black/African American, Latinx, or Indigenous.
Becoming a mentor
As an NMC mentor, you are supporting Black/African American, Latinx, and Indigenous students and strengthening an inclusive and equitable physics community by fostering diverse talents.
The NMC accepts new mentors once a year during the fall.
Becoming a mentee
As an NMC mentee, you can find support for your undergraduate or graduate physics education and connect to physicists who are dedicated to helping you succeed.
Mentoring timeframe
The NMC is flexible to meet the needs of both mentors and mentees, who mutually determine the amount of time that works best for their mentoring relationship. Mentoring relationships typically last at least one academic year, with many mentees keeping the same mentor throughout their entire academic career.
