APS welcomes mentors at all career levels and from all sectors to serve on the NMC. Students from all backgrounds are eligible to sign up as mentees, though the NMC tailors programming for students who have been historically excluded from participating in physics.

Becoming a mentor

As an NMC mentor, you are fostering a vibrant and inclusive community by investing in the next generation of physicists.

The NMC is not accepting new mentors at this time.

Becoming a mentee

As an NMC mentee, you can find support for your undergraduate or graduate physics education and connect to physicists who are dedicated to helping you succeed.

The NMC is not accepting new mentees at this time as the 2025-2026 mentoring session has ended with the spring semester.

Mentoring timeframe

The NMC is flexible to meet the needs of both mentors and mentees, who mutually determine the amount of time that works best for their mentoring relationship. Mentoring relationships typically last at least one academic year, with many mentees keeping the same mentor throughout their entire academic career. The NMC mentoring sessions are paused during the summer; however, mentors and mentees can choose to stay connected after the spring semester.
